The services offered are;
- Rapid Assessment Service (Single Point of Entry)
BADAS is Currently involved in delivery a single point of entry pilot for the county. The aim is to simplify the referral process for people seeking to address issues around their substance misuse. By calling our 0845 number a person can refer themselves to the service and a dedicated outreach worker will meet with them to carryout and initial assessment and assist with referring them to the correct service for them. As an agency we are committed to meeting a person within 5 working days from the receipt of the referral.

During these sessions all clients are given safer injecting advice, blood borne virus advice and safer sex advice.
- Complementary Therapies
Complementary Therapies such as Acupuncture can be accessed via the outreach service. Please see the section on Complementary Therapies on our website.
- ‘One to One’ Support
Once a person has been assessed they can access our ‘One to One’. This support can be tailored to help a person to stop their drug use or prevent them returning to using again. The service is person centred and aims to meet the clients individual needs around their substance misuse.
- BBV Advice & Initial Blood Borne Blood Virus (BBV) Testing for Hepatitis
C & B
The Outreach Team are able to offer people initial testing for Hepatitis C & B. This is carried out by using the Altrix Oral Fluid Testing kits. Prior to testing the client will be given advice Hepatitis C & B. When the results are obtained the client will be given advice relevant to the outcome and assisted with any further referral required.
The Drug Interventions Programme (DIP), a Home Office funded initiative was launched in April 2003. DIP seeks to use every opportunity from arrest to sentence to get drug misusing offenders into treatment and break the link between drugs and crime.
DIP interventions form part of a beginning-to-end support programme that follows and manages offenders as they pass through the criminal justice system, covering the following areas:
- Police custody
- Courts
- Prison
- Probation
- Treatment
The BADAS Criminal Justice Interventions Team plays a key part this work through the following services;

The service operates independently from the Police, offering easy access to services for people being held in custody. The ultimate aim of the scheme is to enable offenders to engage with services at the point of arrest, in order to reduce their drug and related offending behaviour.
Clients’ motivation levels are assessed in order to measure their readiness to change. Harm reduction advice is given to people and information can be provided on how to change their lifestyle, highlighting treatment options that are available to them. Following a full assessment and with client consent, the Arrest Referral Team will refer them to a Criminal Justice Interventions Treatment Worker or another appropriate treatment service.
It is commonly accepted that people are more likely to make positive changes to their lives when faced with a crisis such as being arrested or sentenced Therefore, the Arrest Referral Scheme operating in custody suites and Courts makes links with drug users at these crisis points and can encourage them to take the crucial first step in making positive changes to their lifestyle.

DIP Aftercare and Through Care: DIP Aftercare and Through Care Service offers support which needs to be in place after a person with a history of drug-misuse is released from prison completes a community sentence or leaves treatment. The service does not only involve issues around drug treatment or maintaining their goals around being drug free , but includes access to additional support with issues which may include housing, managing finance, family issues, learning new skills and employment. Referral to this service is through Drug Interventions Programme.

The BADAS Shared Care Programme workers work alongside drug users in a joint venture between GP’s and pharmacists when the client is seeking to stop using heroin or any other opiate.
Two of the most important factors in a successful shared care programme are that the dose of methadone or subutex is adequate and that there is holistic provision of social care. Ideally, the social care is regular and has agreed aims and is provided in the person’s local surgery by our Shared Care Team.
The support is designed to meet the individual needs of the person and is regularly reviewed to ensure that the care plan is up to date and relevant.
A wide range of support is available to people on the shared care programme. As well as advice on drug use and harm reduction, support will assist with referrals to housing, education, training and other treatment options.
Referral to shared care is either through contacting the Wiltshire Team on 01373 824060 or by accessing the Outreach Team via a ‘Drop In’ session at one of many venues around the county. Please contact the office for up to date details of times and venues.

Auricular Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing. Auricular (or ear) Acupuncture uses 5 ear points which can be applied as an aid in detox and relapse prevention. Acupuncture relieves a lot of the discomfort of withdrawal while it restores the body's energy and internal functions to normal. Auricular acupuncture is an affective treatment for any person seeking to address problems with substances including Crack, Heroin, Methadone, Benzodiazepines and alcohol.
Auricular acupuncture helps relieve headaches, body aches, sweats, sleep disturbances, tremors, anxiety and depression. It also helps to improve mental clarity, decrease anger, and reduce cravings.
The acupuncture needles connect to the body's natural energy called ‘Qi’, this powers the body's organs and allows them to function. The treatments help increase the circulation of Qi so he body's organs work more efficiently, therefore you feel healthier and more alert.
